Performance: Battle Journal by Aspaklaria Theater
Five combat soldiers arrive at a recovery retreat in Italy after the war. This time, there are no uniforms and no orders. Just five men, together, beginning the difficult journey inward.
As they work through the emotional aftermath of war, they confront the loss and invisible wounds they carry while searching for hope, healing, and a new sense of purpose. Through shared memories, quiet moments, and an unbreakable bond, they discover hope, honesty, and the possibility of healing.
Battle Journal was created from interviews with dozens of combat soldiers and their spouses. All five actors continue to serve as reserve combat soldiers, and most fought during the war. The production brings to the stage the pain of post-traumatic stress alongside the deep camaraderie forged in combat and the hope of moving forward. It is an invitation to active-duty soldiers, reservists returning from the battlefield, their families, and anyone whose life has been touched by the war.
