Piyyut & Rock for Selichot | Elul 5786
The Museum of Tolerance Jerusalem invites you to a special musical evening bringing together the world of piyyut and Selichot with Israeli rock, led by singer, composer, and paytan Lior Elmaleh and featuring some of Israel’s leading artists.
At the heart of the evening will be a performance by the Elmughrabia Orchestra from Ma’alot-Tarshiha, under the musical direction of Orian Shukrun, with special arrangements created specifically for this meeting between piyyut and Israeli rock. The music will connect the centuries-old tradition of Jewish piyyut, with its themes of longing, prayer, and spirituality, with the power, honesty, and creative freedom of Israeli rock.
Additionally, Lior Elmaleh will be joined by leading Israeli rock artists for special performances of Selichot piyyutim, songs inspired by the month of Elul, and beloved Israeli classics. The songs will be presented in original arrangements that bring together East and West, sacred and secular, tradition and renewal.
